The Shrek Experience

Isn't this so super cute?? I love Puss in Boots! And Shrek!

Ever since I heard that Shrek 3 was coming out, I have been nagging at almost everyone I know, saying that I have to watch it. Although I don't particularly like movies of this genre, Shrek is just different for me. I had really good memories with Shrek 1 and 2, and I was honestly looking forward to Shrek 3 as I was convinced that more memorable memories would be created. I was going to watch it with my bestest girlfriends! Of course it would be great! Or so I thought..

The moment I stepped into the cinema, I was surrounded by the most fearsome sight ever.. Kids.. by the dozens.. Kids on the right, kids on the left, kids jumping up and down.. I nearly ran away at the sight of my worst nightmare. But I already had tickets, and I really wanted to watch Shrek so I persevered.. and searched for my friends. I bought my juice and popcorn and waited eagerly for my movie to start. When the lights dimmed, I sat back and relaxed. Good times ahead!!

Unfortunately, that wasn't what the cinema had in store for me. About 15 minutes into the movie, a monster sitting right behind me made its presence felt. She couldn't stop chattering to her parents!! Ok, I understand that she's excited about watching a movie with her parents, but come on kid. Doesn't the fun lie in actually watching the movie?? What's the point in coming to watch a movie if all you hear is your own voice? You can hear your voice any time you want! For free! And I don't need to hear your voice, that is one freebie that I can do WITHOUT.. My friends and I kept on looking behind us pointedly, but the mother and father just ignored us.. Civilised folk we live with, eh?

Then, I started hearing footsteps.. No, it wasn't a ghost.. It was the monster tap dancing behind me. I have no idea why she began creating such a ruckus behind me!!! What's with the display of "talents" anyways? We're not at an Idol audition for crying out loud!! I was starting to get really annoyed when it started.. gentle rumbles at first.. which slowly but surely turned into giant SNORES.. I nudged my friend and asked her "Do you hear that snoring?" and she said that I was imagining it. Then it started getting louder, and louder and LOUDER. It was so loud it drowned out Shrek!

We turned back and saw the father leaning back against his chair, mouth wide open, happily snoring away.. We glared at the whole family, and at one point we actually said "My God! What's the matter with you people??". The wife had the cheek to laugh! Laugh! But she finally got the message and nudged her husband awake. The snoring stopped for a while. For a while.

5 minutes later, the percussion orchestra started again..

We gave up and started laughing. Laughing at Shrek, laughing at our luck, and laughing helplessly at the way the father was snoring and snoring away. Men. That's all I can say. MEN.. *sigh*

Anyways, this Shrek experience was different from what I experienced before.. but it sure is one experience deeply embedded in my memory. I really wonder what Shrek 4 will be like. Is there a 4th installment? Anybody know?
